You can add 3D models into a PDF page using the 3D tool in Right PDF Editor. After you place a 3D model in your document, you can edit its 3D properties and content of its 3D annotation, and adjust the canvas where the 3D model appears.

The way you add a 3D model is similar to how your add movie and sound files to a PDF file. Once the 3D model is placed on a PDF page, you are able to adjust the area of the 3D canvas and further edit the 3D content.

Add a 3D model to a PDF page

  1. Open a PDF file where you want to place a 3D model or create a blank PDF.

  2. Choose Advanced > Multimedia > 3D .

  3. Drag a rectangle where you want the 3D object to appear to define the canvas area for it.

  4. In the Add a 3D File dialog box, locate and select a 3D file (*.u3d) and then click Open.

  5. To activate the 3D model, do either of the following with the Hand tool:

    • Click on the 3D canvas.

    • Right-click on the 3D canvas and select Activate 3D.

Move, delete, or resize the 3D canvas

After the 3D model is placed within the specified area, you can move, delete, or resize the 3D canvas depending on your needs with the Select tool.

  1. Click on the 3D canvas with the Select tool and then change it as needed:

    • To move the canvas, drag it to a new location on the page.

    • To resize the 3D model and its canvas, drag the frame of it to the size you want. The 3D object retains the correct proportions within the adjusted frame.

    • To delete the 3D model and its canvas, click on it and then press Delete on your keyboard.

Edit the 3D content

  1. Right-click the 3D model with the Select tool and select 3D Content Editor… from the menu.

  2. In the 3D Content Editor dialog box, you can change the content (both 3D model and its cover) of the 3D annotation. Select a 3D file to replace the current one and a cover, and then click OK:

    • 3D File. Select a 3D file to replace the current 3D model. Click Browse…. Select a 3D File (*.u3d) and click

    • Cover. Select a desired cover for the 3D model from the Cover drop-down menu. If you choose Select cover from file, click the Browse… button and specify a file to use.

Edit 3D activation properties

You can determine how a 3D model is activated and deactivated. Use the Select tool to double-click inside a 3D model or right-click and select Properties... to call out the 3D Properties dialog box.

Activation

  • To Activate 3D. You can specify when the 3D model is activated. After a 3D model is activated, you can use the 3D toolbar to interact with it.

  • Default Animation Status. You can determine how the animation runs. It only affects 3D models with animation. If you select Playing from the options menu, Right PDF Editor automatically plays the animation when you activate it. If Paused is selected, Right PDF Editor will not automatically run the model and you have to use the Play Animation tool from 3D Toolbar to run the animation.

Deactivation

  • To Deactivate 3D. You can determine when the 3D model is deactivated. When the 3D model is deactivated, the 2D image or cover remains inside the 3D model canvas.

  • When 3D Is Deactivated. You can specify how the animation behaves when it is deactivated.

  • No interaction. Select this to make the 3D model non-interactive.
